The Tatas’ frantic search for a CEO that began the day they welcomed Air India home and spanned over 100 days since then has finally come to an end. “Who is the new CEO of Air India” has been trending on the internet and social media ever since Air India Chairman N. Chandrasekaran officially revealed the name. Air India’s new CEO will take office on June 15, 2022.

The Tata Group, a salt to software conglomerate, has appointed Campbell Wilson, an industry veteran with 26 years of experience in international aviation, as CEO and Managing Director of Air India. He is currently CEO of Scoot, Singapore Airlines’ wholly-owned low-cost subsidiary in Asia-Pacific. While announcing the rowdy airline’s new chief, N. Chandrasekaran said:

“I am delighted to welcome Campbell to Air India. He is an industry veteran having worked in key global markets spanning multiple functions. Additionally, Air India would benefit from its additional experience of building an airline brand in Asia. I look forward to working with him to build a world-class airline…”

Originally from New Zealand, Campbell Wilson joined Singapore Airlines in 1996. He spent the first 10 years of his aviation career in Auckland. Subsequently, he began to rise through the management ranks of the Singapore Airlines Group (SIA). His first promotion was Vice President of Airline Operations in Canada. He was appointed general manager of operations in Hong Kong and Japan in 2008 and 2010 respectively.

Campbell Wilson’s career at Singapore Airlines took a major turn in 2011 when he became the founding CEO of Scoot, which began operating low-cost flights on short and medium-haul routes. in June 2012 as a subsidiary of SIA. He propelled Scoot to new heights until June 2016 when he was promoted to Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for SIA Group. He welcomes the opportunity to work with Tatas, one of the world’s most prestigious brands. At the same time, the decision to leave the SIA group where he built his career and Scoot is not an easy decision for him.

“Air India is on the cusp of an exciting journey to become one of the best airlines in the world, delivering world-class products and services with a distinct customer experience that reflects Indian warmth and hospitality. I am delighted to join Air India and Tata colleagues in the mission to achieve this ambition…” said the new CEO of Air India.

“The Tatas have already started working on upgrading the fleet, improving the quality of in-flight service, renovating the cabin, punctuality, etc. According to reports, Air India’s on-time performance was 91.2 in March 2022; an increase of 28% after its takeover by the Tatas. What we expect from the new CEO of one of our partner airlines is the expansion of Air India’s non-stop flights to more destinations with the growing number of Indian immigrants to the United States and other countries. ‘other countries.“said the Business Development Manager of Indian Eagle, a leading airline ticketing agency offering the best Air India fare offers and the cost-to-cost air ticket booking of other airlines.

The appointment of Campbell Wilson as CEO of Air India seems to aviation experts that Singapore Airlines has returned the favor to JRD Tata, the founder of Air India and the architect of Indian aviation. to the government of Singapore in the 1970s. In Air India’s heyday, legendary aviator and industrialist JRD Tata was approached to design Singapore Airlines’ inflight services, according to various sources. In short, Air India was a pioneer for Singapore Airlines and other Asia-Pacific carriers in the golden age of air travel.

OPINION: Have you ever heard of the quote: “Buy cheap, buy twice?”

I never really understood it until I was on the phone at 11pm last night in a panic talking to my third party travel agents who stoically informed me that they had canceled my flight from Auckland to London next week.

“Only one of the six flights I’m taking have been cancelled, my first flight is next week, so you’ll help me find alternative flights, won’t you?”

“No, we have now canceled all six flights. You will see a refund in three months. Is there anything else we can help you with today? »

shudder.

As many Kiwis are starting to look to wider horizons with the world reopening, our borders opening up and travel finally starting to feel a little more normal, it was time to dust off the old passport.

It’s fair to say that many of us might have a few cobwebs in our noggins when it comes to international travel and how to do it right.

Over the past few years, I had forgotten which booking sites were trustworthy and which let me know nine days before a flight that there was no more flight and that I was on my own.

Third-party booking sites can be a great way to find flight deals, but they're not without risk.

Third-party booking sites can be a great way to find flight deals, but they’re not without risk.

As more Kiwis start to travel again and start using the ever-increasing number of cheap flight sites, I think it’s important to revisit how to “shop smart” without getting into hot water.

I had thought that a company I trusted would not let me down.

I was in shock, then in denial, then panicked again.

I started scrambling trying to find last minute flights, by which time the prices had doubled from what I had originally paid.

What had been a $1,400 one-way ticket had become a $4,500 one-way ticket. I was mortified. I would like to publicly apologize to the Swiss Air agent, whom I called and between sniffles asked if he could stop this third party booking site from canceling all my other flights.

“We are very sorry ma’am, we cannot help you with third party booking site issues.”

“Is there nothing you can do?” They canceled all my flights without my permission.

“Next time…book directly with the airlines”

Is it worth trying to skimp on cheap plane tickets?

Is it worth trying to skimp on cheap plane tickets?

How could you get yourself into this mess, Simran? Aren’t you supposed to be good with money?

A month ago I bought tickets, my first vacation in Europe! How exciting. Using Google’s flight search tool, I thought I had scored a great deal.

It was $60 cheaper than booking directly with the airline. And it sounded trustworthy, the company self-proclaimed Europe’s number one online travel agency! What a flight, I thought to myself. A $60 flight is now costing me thousands in last-minute tickets only a month later.

I had no idea how third party booking systems worked. The company’s number one Google search was “how do I get my money back from ******”. Their trustpilot score was one star. How could I miss this? Is there a “don’t use third party sites” club that I wasn’t aware of – and more importantly, how is this all legal?

Third-party booking sites can be a great way to find flight deals, but they’re not without risk, and it’s important to understand how these search engines work and how they can impact your trip. After all, who will be held responsible if something goes wrong?

Most people who book on these sites have no problem when things go well – that’s where the fun stops. When things go wrong, that’s when it really pays to have access to good customer service. Third-party vendor reviews are plagued with customers waiting for refunds, with some suggesting they’ve been waiting since 2020 when the pandemic began.

In a frantic rush I was able to find alternative flights, although much more expensive than what I had paid for. Do I expect this third-party site to refund my tickets? They said it takes three months to process. At this point, I may just need to cut my losses and remember that it pays to pay, after all, “buy cheap, buy twice”.

So what can you learn from my experience?

Abigail Dougherty / Stuff

Emotional meetings at Auckland International Airport as borders reopen to 60 visa-free countries.

– Be sure to compare all your options. Use sites like Skyscanner to find the best deals, but don’t book on these sites.

– Book directly with the airline or a travel agency. They are the ones who will ensure that you are taken care of, even after paying for your ticket. And for God’s sake, get travel insurance.

– Read the fine print carefully. Some of these companies will charge you additional booking fees, change your name, and have different policies on how they handle flight cancellations.

– If their website has a big button for “refund requests” at the top, go for it. A high volume of refunds is never a good sign.

As for me? Well, this drama makes me feel like I have to go on vacation. So is it worth trying to skimp on cheap plane tickets? I will have to say no.

As the world opens its doors, maybe it’s finally time to start taking the vacation you’ve been dreaming of – or visiting friends and family that COVID has kept out of reach. The problem: Flights can be extremely expensive (says the bargain hunter who just spent $1,400 on round-trip flights to a wedding in San Diego. Ouch.).

But maybe they don’t need to be so expensive: Flight-deal app Dollar Flight Club now offers a lifetime subscription to its Premium+ app for just $99 (that’s usually $168 per year) or $49 for a lifetime of its Premium subscription through StackSocial. With the app, families can save hundreds of dollars on the trips they take, with a Premium subscription including access to all the best Economy Class flight deals (Premium+ users can view deals in other classes, including First Class, Premium Economy) and incorrect prices; national and international offers from your home airports; up to 50% discounts and benefits with Dollar Flight Club travel partners; travel tips and instant alerts so you can hit when the iron is hot.

What critics say about Dollar Flight Club: A critic at The dot guy says Dollar Flight Club is “a solid service that sends lots of international flight deals that are curated just for the departure airports you want.” One of its biggest assets is its efficiency, according to a travel itinerary planning app reviewer Wanderlog: “Dollar Flight Club simply takes the hassle out of searching for those daily flight deals yourself and does it for you instead.

Nearly 30 reviews on the StackSocial site that purchased the offer gives it an average rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars. “Membership will pay off if you take even one trip. They have nice newsletters and have been consistent. A+,” writes one reviewer. Another reviewer was delighted to confirm that their membership is, indeed, a lifetime membership: “I had been watching Dollar Flight Club for a while, but the lifetime membership is really what convinced me to sign up. The process was pretty easy, and after I purchased I checked to make sure I wouldn’t be charged next year, and sure enough in my Dollar Flight Club account settings it says my Premium+ subscription will be renewed for $0 next year!”

How the deal works: By purchasing the promotion on the StackSocial site, you will receive a code to redeem with the Dollar Flight Club app or site (available on iOs, Android and web). Code must be redeemed within 30 days of purchase. The license will be available on an unlimited number of devices.

Other things to consider: Wanderlog note that even with the paid premium subscription plan, you cannot search for exact flights. “You can add destinations you want to get deals from, but you can’t specify dates or guarantee you’ll get flight deals to those destinations…Dollar Flight Club is really for frequent flyers who will take advantage of deals when they will see them. It is not very useful for people who plan to visit a certain place for a predetermined period of time.

Reviewers on Trustpilot give the app an average rating of 3.9 stars out of 5, with most reviewers lamenting the app’s auto-renewal feature – something that shouldn’t be a problem with this particular offering.

DoDollar Flight Club has partnered with StackSocial to offer a lifetime subscription to its Premium+ app for just $99 (that’s usually $168 per year) or $49 for a lifetime of its Premium subscription.

Last month, an Icelandic airline advertising cheap flights to Europe made its maiden trip from the United States to Keflavik Airport, outside Reykjavik. At the gate of Marshall International Airport in Baltimore-Washington, Play Airlines commemorated the occasion with an unusual sight: a cake shaped like a volcano. I ate a surprisingly tasty slice before boarding the first of four flights I would take to test the low-cost carrier.

On his website, Play promotes core values such as safety, punctuality, simplicity, happiness and low prices when traveling to more than 20 “wonderful destinations in Europe and North America”. The airline began operating in Europe last June, offering trips to tourist powerhouses such as Prague and Copenhagen, as well as less familiar locations such as the Canary Islands in Spain and Stavanger, Norway.

I took the carrier’s first flight from Baltimore to Reykjavik for a stopover en route to London Stansted Airport. Then I flew home from Paris Charles de Gaulle airport with another connecting flight to Reykjavik.

Here’s what I liked, hated and recommended to potential Play travelers.

How do you actually get those $49 flights? There is always a catch in airline sales.

Once you’ve entered your trip details, Play’s website loads a calendar showing the starting price of tickets on a given date. Because Play is much smaller than a Delta or Lufthansa, you can have an option for one flight each day. There may also be days of the week when the airline doesn’t fly to your desired destination — something to keep in mind when planning your trip.

The prices you see on the calendar will inevitably go up due to fees and add-ons that will come later. They also reflect the cost for a traveler per one-way flight “when booking a return flight,” the website says. Buying a one-way instead can be more expensive: I was offered $187 for my flight to London for half a round trip, but $356 once I changed it to a one-way ( I wanted to come back to BWI from Paris. )

Once you’ve confirmed your flight details and entered passenger information, the add-ons start accumulating. You are entitled to one free personal item as long as it fits under the seat. Everything else will cost you. Prices for carry-on ($26 to $69 per direction) and checked baggage ($32 to $89) vary depending on your destination, time of year, and whether you’re paying online or at the airport.

For my trip from Baltimore to London, my cabin fee was $46. A checked bag would have cost $72. Choosing a seat would have cost between $5 and $50. Cancellation protection for my trip was $25. After counting everything, the total cost of my flight from Baltimore to London was $428.11. The flight from Paris to Baltimore was $385.38, which leaves me with a total of $813.49.

Sometimes Play is cheaper, and sometimes not. When researching my same route for a week in May, Delta’s economy price ($618) beat Play ($976). A week earlier, however, Play cost $617 while the same route with US and UK flights cost $724.

Everything you need to know about flying with pets, from the people who do it the most

Play operates from some renowned airports (BWI, Charles de Gaulle, Boston Logan, Orlando International) as well as secondary airports (New York Stewart International Airport, London Stansted). I enjoyed arriving in Stansted from the hustle and bustle of Heathrow, and could always catch a convenient train to the city centre. At Paris airport, Play was located in the same terminal as other budget options like easyJet and Iceland Air.

Connecting through Iceland is a piece of volcanic cake. The airport is small and easy to navigate, making it easy to get through border control and your next flight. Depending on the time of day, you can buy food, drinks and souvenirs from one of the cafes and shops. If you go very early or very late there is a vending machine with some light refreshments to buy.

I missed some of the little touches you get from major airlines, including the ability to add your boarding pass to your Apple Wallet for easy access, or email and text notifications about gate changes . I was killing time at Paris airport thinking I was in the right place – according to my boarding pass – with plenty of time to spare when I was supposed to be on the other side of the building. On a leisurely walk to stretch my legs, I saw on the departures monitor that the airline was calling for final boarding at another gate.

Play sent a reminder email about my upcoming flights, including useful information about the Paris airport, but there was no link directing me to check-in. It also doesn’t have an app that could do that, so you can set your own alarm.

For any customer service issues, there is no phone number to call. Instead, you can message the airline on Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Twitter or email flyplay@flyplay.com.

The All-Right Guide to Overcoming Jet Lag

Play’s Airbus A321NEO and A320NEO are stripped down: no sockets, no WiFi, no pillows and no in-flight entertainment. The company says this no-frills service allows travelers to pay less and “play more.”

Depending on the itinerary, you may be required to wear a mask on board, but it was not required on my flights between the US and Iceland, or Iceland to London.

As expected from a low-cost carrier, the seats are nothing to write home about. They’re about three inches thick (estimated with my fingers like a measuring stick) and legroom varies by flight; I had plenty of room to stretch on half of my segments and felt cramped (even at 5ft 4in) during the others. The tray table was barely wide enough to cover the base of my 13-inch laptop, and the length was short enough for the laptop to hang off the edge.

The flight attendants were cheerful and accommodating, which mitigated bad news, such as the fact that there is no free water; you can buy a bottle for about a dollar. Also available for purchase: a cup of YumYum chicken flavored noodles ($5.25), Pringles ($3.15), a club sandwich ($9.45) and a can of Pepsi Max ($3.15).

A highlight was the selection of Icelandic treats, including Freyja Draumur, a liquorice milk chocolate ($3.15) and Appelsin orange soda ($3.15). To get really wild, you can order a caffeinated sparkling water ($3.15). On the alcohol side, there’s Icelandic beer and canned cocktails, as well as international wines and mini-bottles of liquor. I tried the Icelandic Gull beer ($9.45) which was tasty but barely cold.

Test The Jet, a chic bus that promises a private plane experience

The game was shiny and new – and very much like a budget airline.

That means fewer flight options and more nickel and dimming. It might not always be so cheap either. If you have flexible dates for your trip, you can find cheap tickets to Iceland and Europe. But if you’re flying during peak demand times or booking one-way tickets, you can expect to pay about as much as you would on other airlines.

There are a few pluses: friendly staff, interesting snacks to buy. I even asked the staff at my Paris check-in if I could get an aisle seat, and they agreed without charging me. Even more special, during my first departure in Iceland, an air hostess told me that there was a superb view of the Northern Lights.

Are you guaranteed a memorable and economical trip by booking with Play? No. But if you can get a good price, I would recommend it.

The South Australian Tourism Commission (SATC) launched £10 (AU$17.72) return airfares from the UK and Ireland to Adelaide last week, to encourage backpackers with a working holiday visa to return to the country.

Two hundred seats are available on Qatar Airways services, sold through tour operator Trailfinder. Among the requirements for the scheme, individuals must be UK or Irish citizens, have a working holiday visa and be able to travel to Adelaide by September 30, 2022.

Tourism Minister Zoe Bettison welcomed the return of people on working holiday visas, saying it was a “win-win”, with a boost for the state’s tourism industry.

“Our tour operators have missed having international visitors on their tours and experiences, and booking accommodation, and they have also missed the backpacker workforce and vibrancy they bring.

“In turn, we know these young people missed traveling and missed seeing South Australia – they harbor a love for our state and our country, which often inspires them to return later in life,” said Bettison said.

In 2019, before the pandemic, South Australia had 27,000 working holiday visas, which the government says contributed $47 million to the economy.

“We want to attract these young people to come to South Australia. We know that when they come, not only do they work here, but they stay and spend as tourists,” said Australian Hotels Association chief executive Ian Horne.

After two years of pandemic, the entry requirements in the different countries they relaxand many travelers are again looking for opportunities to travel.

In an unfavorable economic context vis-à-vis the dollar, Argentines who fly abroad techniques to get cheap plane tickets. Here are some tips to achieve this.

Cheap flights = search early

A rule of thumb: prepare your trip in advance and start looking at tickets as soon as possible, bearing in mind that you can buy them up to a year before you use them. While it is true that the possibility of promotions or offers appearing increases as the flight date approaches (depending on occupancy), never leave the purchase to the last minute.

As a general rule, it is ideal to have the passages resolved at least two months before and even more if the flight takes place during a long weekend or a special date.

Be flexible with dates, stops and airports

Occasionally, By choosing the round trip a day before or a day after the scheduled time, you can save thousands of pesos. If possible, being flexible with dates (and with layovers) offers more alternatives for getting cheap flights. And, of course, if you travel in low season, you will benefit from better prices.

On the other hand, it’s a good idea to check alternative airports: many big cities have them and the connections are generally cheaper. Of course: in this case you have to assess the cost of the transfer to the accommodation and see if the final price really suits you.

Compare prices with specialized platforms

Skyscanner, Kayaking and Tourism are useful comparators to quickly evaluate the prices of different airlines for the same destination and the same travel date and show you the best alternative for your search.

Anyway, it’s a good idea to check some airlines first what prices they present for different destinations at different times of the year, so you have a real idea of when you’re at regular price and when you’re on sale.

Delete cookies or open a private browsing session

If you ever happened to look up a flight on an airline’s site and came back the next day and it had gone up, the recommendation is that you delete cookies from your browser after seeing the prices. Or simpler: directly, do the search in a new private browsing window.
