  • Qatar is hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup in eight stadiums with an average capacity of 47,500.
  • Over 2.45 million FIFA tickets have already been sold with the next ticket office opening in September.
  • Doha is a four-hour flight from India and Indian travel agencies offer FIFA World Cup packages.

With less than 100 days left for the biggest sporting event in the world, the FIFA World Cup, tickets are flying off the shelves. No less than 2.45 million tickets have already been sold for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, and the Indians are also planning trips to Doha.

This is not a surprise, since Doha is a four hour flight from India. Even without Indian representation, India has many football fans and the 32-team event with 65 matches across eight avenues brings many to Qatar.

“We have booked over 160 travel packages so far. Over 70% of inquiries are from Kolkata. Although tickets for the most important matches are sold out, we have executive travel packages for flight and accommodation,” said Adit Sarin, founder of LetsacIndia, a travel agency in India.

Apart from LetsacIndia, agencies like Fanatic Sports, an Asia-based travel agency for custom sporting events and Make My Trip have also launched season packages.

FIFA travel and ticket categories

The average capacity of FIFA World Cup venues is 47,500 seats. The FIFA federation has divided the tickets into four categories. Fan tickets are only available in categories 1, 2 and 3 as category 4 is reserved for residents of Qatar.

After the launch of phases 1, 2 and 3 of FIFA tickets, the federation announced the next phase of sales which will be launched in September. This last-minute sales phase will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

The most expensive tickets are said to come from the Tier 1 ticket finals costing over ₹1 lakh per person. The other categories are divided into categories 2 and 3, with the cheapest category 4 tickets reserved only for residents of Qatar.

A total of 65 matches will be played at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. While many travelers would reside in fan villages and hotels, food can be quite expensive. The average cost of food for a tourist in Doha is ₹3,800 per day.

“Public transport is free but staying at the fan village is expensive, with $70 a day just for accommodation. But we are still happy. This will be the last World Cup for mega football stars Lionel Messi and Christiano Ronaldo. The Qatar World Cup is very special because underdogs like Belgium and African teams have come into the limelight,” said Cup participant Shilarze Saha Roy, 35, from Kolkata, India. of the world.

“Brazil, after a long time, will be favorites again,” added Roy.
